Whose wishes are belated other than mine? Shucks, did I miss the party?

Here's some birthday news, or "berth" day news if you prefer.

EMI has decided to go along with Steve Jobs on allowing electronic distribution without some of the previous limitations on making copies.

It sounds almost like a new era of realism for the music biz. Perhaps ASCAP can be persuaded to be equally flexible if they aren't already. I just noticed the article on the front page of the NY Times (April 2n no fooling). Given the size of the American media market (and surely I include Canada when I speak of America) it's about time that we all felt that the industry can adjust to the new medium.

It will be harder to find the needle in the haystack, but if it is there - like its cousin the mousetrap, the world will beat a path to it and find it with a metal detector if that's what it takes. At the end of the needle, who knows?

There could be a spinning disk - a gold platter or a platinum one with the evolving music of Teo Vincent, one of a kind - or at least one of a kind represented by a few Tyners or Brubecks and a few other ticklers of ivory who can play with the same palette as a DeBussy or a Scriabin and improvisitorily like a little Wolfgang.

The common ground of all mothers (and fathers) of invention, seems to be knowing how to invent and how to play and the fact that the two are ever one and the same.

I think forty seven is a prime number - so here's to a great and prime year. If I'm a day late for the party it's just because I was foolin' around yesterday.
