Oregano is a very flavorful and aromatic plant native to the Mediterranean region, but now it is grown all over the world.
It is used extensively in Mediterranean cooking, but aside from its use for cooking it has many other benefits.

Oregano has strong antibacterial properties, it is a source of antioxidant vitamins which may prevent many forms of cancer.

Oil of Oregano fortifies the immune system, increases joint and muscle flexibility and improves respiratory health.

Oil should be used in small amounts, and for cooking the dried form is better than fresh oregano.

Enjoy.

Thank you Sue.

I love oregano. Like yoko, I have some in my garden, but I need to thin it out quite often because it seems to want to take over everything else.

I dry my own fresh oregano. Dry it by tying the stems together and hanging it in a warm, dry, well-ventilated place. I store my homemade dry oregano in a paper bag in a dark place, and crumble the leaves off the branches as I need them. Storing the whole branches helps keep the volatile oils intact.

Thank you again for this post Sue. A friend of mine is taking a drop of oil of Oregano each day and she swears that it keeps her healthy. She never gets colds or any kind of illnesses. It might be worth trying.

Love,

Oregano is an important culinary herb, used for the flavor of its leaves, which can be more flavorful when dried than fresh. It has a warm and slightly bitter taste, which can vary in intensity. Its oil has health benefits and medicinal qualities.
