The Toshogu Shrine is located in Nikko, Japan.
Ieyasu is the deity venerated in this shrine. Born in 1542 A.D.This was a period of civil wars in Japan and Ieyasu managed to unify the country. He died in 1616, and, at his last will, Hidetada Tokugawa, his son, built the shrine to honour his father.

The Toshugo Shrine is a treasure not only in Japan, but for the whole world to enjoy.
The Toshogu shrine consists 55 main structures, and stands at 640 meters above sea level
The shrine has exquisite beauty architecturally, as well as its paintings and sculpture. It is typical of the Edo period (1603-1867)of the Tokugawa shogunate.
