Yemaya

When the people of Africa were enslaved and brought to the Caribbean Islands and South America, they held on to their love of Yemeya, Goddess of the Sea, Womb of Creation. She kept their spirits alive in the horrible conditions of slavery. In music, celebration, ritual and song, Yemeya lives in the hearts of the people.

From: The Book of Goddesses by Nancy Blair
